What to Expect During Your Energy Audit

On the Day of Your Evaluation

measuring air flow from duct work ventOur comprehensive energy evaluation incorporates many types of equipment such as a blower door and a thermal imaging camera. While each home is unique in its style and function, you can expect a our Comprehensive Audit to take anywhere from 6 to 8 hours. Your consultant will inspect the exterior and cover every accessible room inside the home including crawlspaces and attics. The evaluation will likely include:

Homeowner Involvement

  • Homeowner interview where we will go over a questionnaire and identify any specific questions you have about your home.
  • We will go over initial findings before we leave

Exterior Visual Inspectionsinspecting air conditioner outside in winter

  • Foundation
  • Landscaping
  • Roof
  • Gutters
  • Windows

Interior Inspections

  • Visual inspection of each room of the interior including lighting, exhaust fans, and ventsBlower Door Installed in a Front Entrance
  • Attic inspection (yes, we need access to it and we will get inside of your attic)
  • Inspection of crawl spaces
  • Operating the clothes dryer
  • Visual inspection of fireplace
  • Opening and closing of interior doors (bedrooms, closets, etc.)
  • Operating stoves and ovens for CO hazards

Equipment and Tests

  • Running the blower door in a main entrance of the homeCombustion Safety Testing
  • Thermal imaging scan of the building envelope (particularly ceilings and walls)
  • Testing for gas leaks at all accessible gas lines and appliances
  • Testing of the water heater and the furnace for CO hazards
  • Measuring the air flow / suction of bath exhaust fans
  • Measuring air flow from all registers
